Ali MC is a Melbourne-based musician, writer and photographer who grew up in both Australia and New Zealand. He has had travel pieces published in the Weekend Australian newspaper, Metior magazine, Students Without Borders magazine, Momondo travel website and Go! online travel magazine.
In 2008 he held a photography exhibition of black and white portraits titled Burma Faces, the result of a month travelling through Burma soon after the 2007 ‘saffron revolution’. He is currently working on an exhibition titled Garageland: Ngaanyatjarra Carscapes, which will feature shots of wrecked cars in the remote Western Desert of Western Australia.
As the frontman and producer of the reggae/ dub/ hip hop group New Dub City, his music and lyrics are inspired by people he has met and experiences he has had throughout the world. New Dub City recently released their debut album Home and are in the process of touring Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
While not on the road, on stage or in the studio, Ali spends his time working with Aboriginal people in both inner-city Melbourne and the remote Western Desert. Snapshots from Somewherica tells a few tales from here, there and everywhere every two weeks or so. Stay tuned…
